Can you see the real

My poems are a way of expressing the deep trauma that I suffered for 20 years due to domestic abuse. This has had a huge impact on my mental and physical health. I found there was not and to this day there still is not enough support for us who have suffered at the hands of a perpetrator. I hope for the poetry to relay my personal message (my way of healing) and share that I am not alone in this journey. To relay the strong message that “Love should not hurt.” Keep strong Queens.

Can you see the real

Can you see the real me behind my smile?
Can you see the real me after my make ups done.
Can you see the real me when I close my bedroom door?
Can you see the real me when I’m sat on the floor?
Can you see the real me after a working day, I’ve got to go home and play.
Can you see the real me who put food on the table who everyone thinks is willing and able.
Can you see the real me who hides behind her shades with tears in her eyes about to break.
Can you see the real me with a tight chest who vapes away not knowing what to do best.
Can you see the real me that worries day and night Can you see the real me that has so much to do I really don’t have a clue.
